The idea

Most tarot sites give you a card and a one-line keyword. Readers who want to understand a whole spread, or learn to read without a book open, have to piece it together. KnowTarot puts reading, learning and record-keeping in one place, works on a phone with no signal, and asks for no account until there is something worth saving.

What was built

  • Readings. 32 spreads defined as data, so adding a spread needs a layout and a guide but no new card text. A spread finder suggests spreads from the question you type. Cards can be dealt, picked from a fan, or entered from your own physical deck.
  • A reading as a whole. A rule-based engine reads the spread together: suits, major cards, reversals, repeated ranks, pairings and how the positions relate.
  • Learning. Flashcards with spaced repetition, quizzes, practice readings and a 14-lesson course, with progress that syncs between devices.
  • A journal. Saved readings with notes, moods, tags, look-backs, statistics, a practice calendar, and CSV and PDF export with full backup and restore.
  • Sharing. Share links with privacy settings, story-sized images, and two-person compatibility readings.
  • Works offline. Installable, with a queue that holds saved readings while offline and sends them when the connection returns. Reminders work without an account. There is a Spanish edition.

Decisions worth explaining

Saves that never duplicate or disappear. Every save goes through an outbox that sends at once or waits in the browser, merges edits to the same reading, and handles a lost reply safely. This is the same problem as a field worker filling in a form with poor signal.

Abuse protection without accounts. Anonymous features are rate-limited in the database itself, with site-wide caps behind them.

Fast on cheap phones. The heavy database library never loads on first paint, and images come in pre-made sizes.

Tested against the real thing. A browser test suite runs against production data and cleans up after itself, with automated accessibility checks on about 40 pages, on desktop and phone.

Outcome

KnowTarot is live with real visitors, measured with cookieless analytics. Mobile Lighthouse on production scores 86 to 95 for performance and 100 for accessibility and SEO. Paid plans are built in Stripe and waiting to be switched on.

What this means for your business

The subject is tarot, but the engineering is the same as a booking app or a customer portal: accounts, payments, offline forms that sync, accessibility, and a site that stays fast as it grows.
